Caroline Roche has written an article about SLG’s new book, Creating a School Library with Impact for Connections magazine.
Aimed at new school librarians who are sometimes thrown in the ‘deep end’, the book is written at entry level, starting from the very first day you walk into your new role as a school librarian and wonder what your next step should be.
Caroline states that, “It has never been more vital that schools have libraries, and yet libraries are often the first to go when school budgets are being cut. Librarians’ salaries in the UK can also be extremely low,” yet at the same time the OECD (2010) has recognised that the job of a school librarian is crucial in creating a literate public, with all the societal and economic benefits that brings.
Creating a School Library with Impact (ISBN 9781783305537), published by Facet Publishing, is part of the drive by the CILIP School Libraries Group to increase the professionalism and status of school librarians through encouraging Professional Registration and support for Certification and Chartership.
