The Pupil Library Assistant of the Year (PLAA) Award 2026 Student Nominations Now Open

Do you know a student who is the heartbeat of your school library – someone who goes above and beyond to support, inspire and champion reading and learning for others?

Now is your chance to see their dedication celebrated on a national stage!
The SLG/SLA Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award shines a spotlight on the incredible young people who make a real difference in their school libraries. This prestigious award honours their passion, commitment and creativity, recognising the vital role pupil librarians play in bringing the library to life.

From the many nominations, a shortlist of outstanding finalists will be chosen by our expert judging panel. Finalists are set an additional challenge – in previous years, they’ve written inspiring letters to MPs or crafted powerful pieces for their school newsletters about the importance of libraries. These students, along with their librarian and guests, will then be invited to an awards ceremony in London – a truly special afternoon where every finalist is celebrated for their achievements.

There are two awards up for grabs:

  • Primary Pupil Library Assistant of the Year
  • Secondary Pupil Library Assistant of the Year

Nominations close on Monday 17 November – don’t miss the chance to showcase the incredible work of your students! Nomination forms are quick and simple: students provide a short statement, and their librarian explains why they deserve recognition.

Let’s celebrate the pupils who make our libraries shine!
